About me

Cue the Wheel of Fortune introduction

I’m a lead ui/ux designer.

I’m an analytical creative, leading with empathy for patients and users alike. I have a knack for problem-solving and crafting purposeful products. I’m well-versed in any media and technology that I can get my hands on, from website design and animation to branding and hand-lettering. With over a decade of design experience, working for clients like AstraZeneca, STIHL, and Pandora, I’m a solution-based, strategic designer. I enjoy collaboration and seeing how other’s brains work.

I'm currently working at fearless, a digital services integrator. I have a wonderful husband, Russ and two young pups, named Smokey and Cookie. We live just south of Baltimore and just close enough to the water to paddleboard on sunny Summer evenings.

If you have some more time

I was your stereotypically ‘why’ kid.

Curiosity and questions are second nature to me. I’m a designer and creative with an engineer’s brain. I'm always dissecting how something is made. Looking for not only how I can recreate it, but also how it can be improved.

The bonus of the positions I’ve held is getting to teach and nurture young talent. Teaching provides the space to see problems in a new light, from a different perspective. You can reassess prior assumptions and find new ways to solve the problem. I’ve mentored interns and junior designers in print media, digital, ux/ui and across a multitude of programs. I’ve coached local club field hockey and private lessons for college bound athletes.

In my free time, I like to keep moving. Whether it’s paddleboarding or hiking in Summer or skiing and yoga in the Winter, I’m always looking for an adventure. Growing up, field hockey was a large part of my life and holds a dear place in my heart.

I have the ‘how hard could it be ‘gene’ (Yes, like Elysse Myers). My current creative pursuits include interior design, trying to keep all my plants alive and trying not to buy more plants.

Crafting a Seamless User Experience

A Comprehensive Guide to my UX Process

Discovery

The process starts with understanding the project requirements and user needs. It helps define the scope and set business goals for the rest of the process. Here I utilize user interviews and stakeholder meetings, surveys or workshops to gather insights and set objectives.

Research + Wires

Once goals and objectives are defined, I dive into research. I analyze user behavior, identifying pain points, and map out user journeys. I also build wireframes, develop the information architecture, and prototypes to test ideas and validate assumptions.

Design

At this point, I begin to create visual design, build out the design system and define the user interface. The design stage is informed by the insights and feedback gathered during the research stage.

Delivery

The final stage include working with developers to implement the design, conducting usability testing, and making any necessary tweaks before launch. Delivery is also an opportunity to gather feedback and continue to iterate on the product.

Nice things people've said:

When Kim is put on a project, I have the utmost confidence that work will be done at 100% effort and it will be a success. Kim is a talented designer, a hard worker, and has all the skill sets for a creative lead. If Kim is on the project, the creative department will be well represented, the account leads will be happy, and most importantly the client will be happy.

Kim is always so thoughtful in her approach to new projects and in addressing client feedback. She is not afraid to raise her hand to ask questions or come chat with me in person. She always makes time to hash out certain details and clarify the information that she needs before jumping into a task.

It’s people like Kim with a proactive and level headed nature, who really are the glue connecting client, account and creative relationships. I’ve always appreciated her patience in explaining things that are not at all my area of expertise, because in doing so, I am better able to relay questions and next steps to the client.

Any  questions for me?

psssst I am currently seeking new opportunities in UX/UI and product design and am open to potential employment.
